The Caytail DK201, a 2K outdoor WiFi security camera with a solar panel, is clearly aimed at users looking for an autonomous, affordable, and easy-to-install solution. Priced under €40, it promises comprehensive outdoor surveillance thanks to its 360° PTZ rotation, solar power supply, color night vision, and PIR motion detection. On paper, it ticks many boxes usually reserved for much more expensive models. I therefore took the time to test it in real-world conditions to see whether its promises hold up over time.

The Caytail DK201 features a functional and robust design, typical of outdoor solar-powered cameras. The thick plastic housing feels reassuring, with a decent finish for this price range. The solar panel is directly integrated into the mount and can be easily adjusted, making it simple to optimize sun exposure.
The motorized head allows smooth, jerk-free rotation, and the overall unit remains fairly compact despite the presence of the battery and solar panel. Once installed high on a wall or pole, the camera stays discreet while covering a very wide area.
After several days of outdoor use, here is my hands-on feedback on the Caytail DK201.
Installation is quick and straightforward. There are no cables to run—just mount the bracket, screw in the camera, and connect everything via the Ubox app using 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Setup takes less than 10 minutes, even for less experienced users.
During the day, the 2K resolution delivers a sharp, detailed image. Faces and movements are clearly identifiable, even at a reasonable distance. At night, the color night vision is a real advantage: the built-in lighting activates automatically and provides usable footage where traditional infrared often loses detail.
The PIR sensor proves effective. Alerts are fast and well-targeted, with very few false positives during my tests. The PTZ function allows manual tracking of an area or movement, which is very practical for monitoring a garden or an entrance.
This is one of the most convincing aspects. With good sun exposure, the solar panel maintains the battery without any issue. Even after several cloudy days, battery life remains comfortable, confirming the value of a truly autonomous solution.
The microphone and speaker perform well. Communication is clear and sufficient to speak to a visitor or deter an intruder remotely.
The Caytail DK201 is pleasantly surprising given its feature set at this price point.
Pros:
Excellent battery life thanks to the solar panel
Convincing 2K image quality
Effective color night vision
Very practical 360° PTZ rotation
Simple installation with no wiring
Excellent value for money
There are a few compromises, but they remain limited.
Cons:
Wi-Fi limited to 2.4 GHz
Ubox app could be improved in some menus
No advanced AI recognition (person/vehicle)
The Caytail DK201 is a very pleasant surprise. For under €40, it delivers a genuinely autonomous, efficient, and easy-to-install outdoor surveillance solution. Its 2K image quality, color night vision, 360° PTZ, and solar power make it a particularly relevant choice for securing a garden, yard, or entrance without unnecessary complexity.
It does not compete with high-end models in terms of AI features, but its value for money is excellent, especially for standard home use.
Final score: 8.8 / 10
A highly competitive solar-powered outdoor camera, ideal for anyone seeking reliable surveillance without an expensive subscription or complex installation.
