With the Tapo C560WS, TP-Link offers a high-end outdoor Wi-Fi 6 security camera, featuring 4K (8MP) resolution, 360° coverage, and free AI-powered smart detection. I had the chance to test it to see whether it truly delivers on its promises of performance and reliability.

Design and Installation – Tapo C560WS

The Tapo C560WS sports a modern, compact design, built for outdoor installation thanks to its IP66 rating, which protects it from rain and dust. It can be mounted either on a wall or ceiling.

Installation is done via the Tapo app, with clear step-by-step guidance to connect the camera to Wi-Fi. The included bracket and accessories (anchors, screws, waterproof seal) make setup straightforward. There’s no battery or solar panel option here: the camera runs on mains power, which ensures continuous operation without the need for recharging.

Image Quality and Night Vision

When it comes to image quality, the C560WS is impressive. With its 4K (8MP) resolution, it delivers outstanding clarity, ideal for capturing details like faces or license plates. The footage is sharp and smooth, even during fast movements.

The Starlight full-color night vision is a real advantage: with its F1.6 aperture lens, light-sensitive sensor, and built-in spotlights, the camera preserves color images in low-light conditions, where most models would switch to black and white.

AI Detection and Smart Tracking

The Tapo C560WS integrates free AI features, including:

• Detection and tracking of people, animals, and vehicles

• Local facial recognition, able to differentiate between a family member and a stranger

• Effective reduction of false alerts by filtering out irrelevant movements

The 360° smart tracking works well: the camera automatically follows movements within its field of view, ensuring full surveillance with no blind spots.

Connectivity and Storage

Another strong point is dual-band Wi-Fi 6 compatibility. This provides a faster and more stable connection, even when your network is already handling multiple connected devices.

For storage, you have two options:
